PSYCHOPHYSICS OF FACE RECOGNITION

Abstract

Same-different judgments show that in face recognition experiments mean response times andcorrect response proportions are similar to previous psychophysical studies of sameness anddifference. These new experimental results and analyses show that the “Interval ofUncertainty†remains fixed regardless of the overall accuracy of performance. Furthermore, improvements in performance occur without providing feedback about correct or errorresponses, suggesting that the image of a face continually sharpens as a result of repeatedpresentations.
